How to focus

This page describes strategies to get into focus mode and to stay focused.

Preparation

  • ⏰  Time: Decide on a time span how long you want to stay in focus (timeboxing)
  • 📑  Resources: Prepare resources for the session (PDF, code)
  • 📱 Phone: Put your phone on focus mode (iOS, Android), Switch Wi-Fi off (if possible)
  • 📍 Location: Be in an Area with minimal distractions
  • 💧  Vitals: Prepare Water and Snacks (so you don't need to break)
  • 🎧  Music: Listen to concentration music (no vocals, no strong melody switches)

How to start

  • Start with the first 5 min of work (you'll probably do it longer)

Take effective breaks

  • ☕️ Brew coffee or tea.
  • 😮‍💨  Do a breathing exercise or meditate.
  • 🪟  Stare out of a window.
  • 📗  Read a page of a book or a blog post.This can be a good substitute for social media checking.
  • 🧹 Tidy up a part of your room.
  • 💤  Lie down with your eyes closed or nap.
  • 🙆‍♀️  Stand up and stretch.
  • 🚶 Take a short walk
  • 💬  Have a chat with a roommate or a colleague.
  • 📞  Call someone.
  • 🏋️  Do a quick workout.
  • 🚿  Take a shower.
  • 🥗  Eat a healthy snack.
  • ✍️  Doodle.
